Is Not Gallery presents the 17th edition of the exhibition “Lush Art in Difficult Times”, a collection of affordable art.
The opening will take place on Friday, April 4th, at 19:30.
The exhibition engages with works by emerging and established contemporary artists, presenting a collection of works from diverse, juxtaposed perspectives, weaving maps of meanings, colors, shapes, techniques, and concerns. In light of the current socio-political climate, art insists on the necessity of the aesthetic experience for emotional catharsis and, the cultivation of the social imaginary and agency against manufactured consent.
Art awakens our senses, inviting us to see, hear, touch, and feel beyond the surface. Recent research shows that participants had ten times more emotional response to an original work of art than to a copy . These findings, in a way, demonstrate what Merleau-Ponty describes as embodied experience, 2 starting from the phenomenology of everyday life that shows a unified perception also found in Gestalt psychology: The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Our perception does not exist in a vacuum, but is carved out of the recesses of the body that we take with us. The brain scans of the research participants show the ability of art to “tear the flesh of the world”, the intra-subjective, embodied reality that connects us to ourselves and others.
“Lush Art in Difficult Times” is a collection of artworks priced under 500 euros.
Now in its 17th edition, it aims to bridge the gap between art and the wider public, providing collectors, new or not, with the opportunity to acquire artworks at affordable prices.
